Swimmers With Different Abilities

Jump Start Swimming is a fully inclusive swim school. We tailor lessons to your swimmers needs and accept all swimmers regardless of their different abilities. One of Jump Start Swimming’s founders, Alex Huynen, is a school psychologist with a Ph.D. in Education. She has worked with children and adults with a wide range of disabilities both in the school setting and during swim lessons.

In 2022, Coach Alex and one other instructor attended a Swimming with Autism training in San Diego, California. The training covered information about Autism and other disabilities, as well as techniques on how to teach lessons to swimmers with different learning styles and disabilities. For the 2023 season and moving forward, all instructors will receive a training on working with swimmers with different abilities.

Jump Start Swimming instructors have worked with swimmers with the following disabilities: Autism, Down Syndrome, speech impairments, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory challenges, physical disabilities and limitations, epilepsy, ADHD, nonverbal, and developmental delays.

If you think your swimmer may have challenges during lessons please contact us via email and we will help you find the best instructor for your child.
